Researchers have proposed a new battery anode solution that can be charged to 60% in 6 minutes, making it possible for breakthroughs in power battery research. The research has been published in the journal Science Advances. It is reported that the breakthrough of this research lies in the anode material of lithium ion battery. The research team used pure lithium metal to replace the traditional mixture of graphite and copper, which can achieve ten times the capacity of current energy storage devices.
In addition, the study uses a novel porous structure to improve the standard anode, and dispersed graphite particles of a certain size in it, and the researchers believe that the particle-scale theoretical model is the best arrangement to address the disordered nature of today's anodes.
The research team also introduced copper nanowires and coatings to the model, heating and cooling treatments to make the material more ordered.
After testing, integrating the new anode into a standard lithium-ion battery allowed the battery to be charged to 60 percent in just 5.6 minutes. It only takes 11.4 minutes to charge 80% of the battery.
If this technology is popularized, it will bring a qualitative leap to the current development of electric vehicles, and people will no longer have to worry about the long charging time of electric vehicles.
